报告摘要(Abstract)：

Domain-specific architectures are rapidly emerging as the cornerstone of modern computing, providing performance and efficiency for particular application domains. However, advances in compute and memory alone are insufficient as interconnection networks as well as "communication" is a critical enabler for domain-specific system architectures.  In this talk, I will discuss the role of domain-specific networks and communication on the future of domain-specific architectures.  In particular, I will highlight our recent work demonstrating how processing-in-memory architectures require equally domain-specific interconnects to achieve scalable performance. I will also present our recent work on domain-specific collective communication, including the TidalMesh and SkipReduce algorithms, which demonstrate the opportunities for domain-specific communication. 

主讲人简介(Bio)：

John Kim is a full professor in the School of Electrical Engineering at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) in Daejeon, Korea. John Kim received his Ph.D. from Stanford University and B.S./M.Eng from Cornell University. His research interests include computer architecture, interconnection networks, security, and accelerators & PIM.  He has received a Google Faculty Research Award and Microsoft-Asia New Faculty Fellowship. He is listed in the Hall of Fame for ISCA, MICRO, and HPCA and is an IEEE Fellow.
