The School of Computer Science, which is rooted in Peking University's solid academic accomplishment in Mathematics and Science, was established in 2021 on the basis of the Department of Computer Science and Technology since 1978. By inheriting Peking University’s tradition of "inclusiveness" and "freedom of thought", it has achieved remarkable results in scientific research, talent training, social service and other aspects based on arduous efforts of generations of teachers and students.
In terms of research, it covers the most comprehensive research fields in Computer Discipline in China. We conduct a wide range of research in various areas, such as computer theory, system software and software engineering, knowledge engineering, programming language, information security, human-computer interaction and multimedia, database and information systems, computer networks, computing linguistics, system architecture, digital audio and video coding & decoding, multimedia communications, and artificial intelligence. The School of Computer Science stands in a leading position in the world in software engineering, artificial intelligence, natural language processing and other research fields.
In terms of talent training, the School of Computer Science has established professional course systems and training programs matching the world's first-class computer discipline. It has set up training programs for outstanding undergraduates, which is represented by Top-notch classes and Turing classes.
In terms of internationalization, the School of Computer Science keeps a close academic relationship with many universities and research institutes in the world, as well as setting up student exchange programs with them. In particular, it has established an English-based postgraduate course system and training program in 2019, and establishedthe International Elite Ph.D. Program for outstanding international students.
In the future, the School of Computer Science will follow the requirements of "promoting international academic frontiers" and "facing major national strategic needs". It aims at the top ten in Computer Science and Technology Discipline in the world to improve the discipline layout, being the global birthplace of important ideas, basic theories, original technologies and first-class talents in disciplines like computer, artificial intelligence, software theory and engineering, and leading the development of Computer Discipline.
